• Decide what you’re looking for before you start your job search. Having a clear goal can help focus your efforts.
• Do you want to work for a foreign or Japanese company? What are the pros and cons of each?
• Would you like to work in a large or small company? What are the pros and cons of each?
• What Industry do you want to work in and why?

The future

• Where do you want to be in 5 years from now?
• Are you planning for the short term or long term?
• Foreigners – how long do you want to be in Japan?

Information gathering

• Network to get information.
• Be perceptive about what’s going on around you and quick to seize opportunities.
• Read newspapers and business articles – stay up to date with current affairs.

Be realistic

• Be selective about what you apply for. Don’t apply for just anything!
• If you’re asking for more money, be able to justify why.
