Consultant

I'm grateful for the level of support given by all my co-workers

Cameron Brett
Consultant, Kansai Office

Since my first day at Wall Street Associates I’ve been impressed and grateful for the level of support given to me by all my co-workers. I’ve been given ample opportunities to undergo formal recruitment training with industry experts plus I’m surrounded by people who are always willing to answer my questions and help me get better.

When I struggle with something there is always someone to give me some advice or point me in the right direction. Whether it’s questions about my team’s specialty or having my co-workers take time out of their busy days to proof read my Japanese e-mails, I’m supported day in and day out by my team mates. I’m encouraged by manager to be bold and set high standards but I’m also given support in the achievement of those goals.

Don’t get me wrong, no one is holding my hand and leading me every step of the way. The standards at Wall Street Associates are very high and the industry is extremely competitive. A career at Wall Street Associates means that the doors will be opened for you but it is up to you to walk through them.

Associate Consultant

This is my Monday morning.

Kevin Haldeman
Associate Consultant, IT Division

How many people consider their paycheck to be compensation for all the pain and suffering they endure each month? How many people dread Monday mornings? Let me tell you about my Monday morning.

I wake up at 5:45, turn on my radio, and jog to Ginza. Ginza! Yes, that's the same Ginza that's on every tourist's must-visit list when they come to Tokyo. I arrive at the office by 7:00. I'm at work very early and very hard-- on my biceps, triceps, abs, back, chest, and shoulders in the gym in our building, provided free to all WSA employees.
By the time I get to my desk, I've been awake for nearly 3 hours, and I can't wait to get started on work. What's work? I spend my days meeting the most successful bilingual IT people in Tokyo, and decision makers from the Fortune 500 companies that employ them.

I work in a team that actually operates like one-- we work together to make every one of us more productive than each of us could be on our own. I work for a manager who measures me honestly and fairly, sets reasonable goals, and more importantly, gives me guidance about how I can crush those goals and be as successful as I choose to be.
I work for a president with whom I am on a first-name basis, who knows my projects and their current statuses, expects results and accepts no excuses; uncompromising in his expectations for his staff. Other 24 year olds are entering data, filing documents, and doing spell checks; I'm taking calls on my mobile from CIOs and meeting the leaders of my industry for private dinners.

I'm surrounded by the most diverse group of colleagues imaginable, all of us united by our desire to work hard and reap the benefits of our hard work, regardless of age, gender, and nationality, At WSA, we truly are what we do. But this isn’t high school; you don’t get points for effort or improvement. However, if you’re willing to step up to the challenge and achieve results, WSA can accommodate, support, and reward any level of success.
Perhaps the most satisfying part of my job is that I get to do all this while helping people. Those people who hate their Monday mornings? I get to help them find new opportunities to have jobs as satisfying as mine.

Challenging My Potential

Kieran Hallahan
Associate Consultant, Supply Chain Management

I was nearly two years working in Japan when I came across the name of Wall Street Associates. I was at a recruitment fair in Yokohama and there were numerous businesses' touting their firms and vying for attention. What stood out about Wall Street Associates was the quiet professionalism of their representatives.

After talking together for a minute or so, I knew that this was the firm for me. I was sold. Given they were in the business of selling, it was a winning first impression.

I had enjoyed my first two years in Japan, but after getting to grips with the culture and unique ways things are done here, I was ready to explore my full working potential. I needed a working environment where the direct rewards of my hard work would not only benefit my firm and team but would be directly available to myself also.

I was young, driven and had energy to burn. Throughout the interview process it became apparent to me that Wall Street Associates would provide an environment where I could challenge my potential, harness it and reap the resulting rewards.

As my professional working life has progressed I have always felt that a cornerstone to business success is customer service. At Wall Street this is at the heart of everything we do, both for external customers and internal ones.
Wall Street Associates have a policy of investing in their employees. This allows me to cultivate my potential, grow with the company, and improve myself professionally. Each day I work in a multi-cultural environment filled with great people from a variety of backgrounds. It is the ideal environment to learn, grow, improve and constantly set the bar higher for yourself.

Team Support

My Perceptions Changed Since Joining WSA

Mark Makdad
Consultant, IT Division

Before coming to Wall Street Associates, I studied at a specialized Japanese language school in Yokohama. As the program concluded, I wanted to transfer my career to Tokyo, making use of my Japanese skills and some background in IT.

My initial impression about recruitment was pretty wild: I thought that it was a put-up-or-shut-up cut-throat environment, and that you either produced results, or showed yourself to the door in a matter of weeks.

When my friend, and now-colleague Kerry introduced me to WSA, I changed my mind about recruitment. I decided to apply based on the personal development potential, and on the values of the company.

I wanted a company that was going to invest in me as a person, complete with training. I believe now this is what makes Wall Street Associates different from many other firms in the market. The day of my final interview, I walked through the Tokyo sales office on my way to the interview room.

The office was on fire with people on phones, ad-hoc discussions, and things happening. I knew at that moment that I wanted to be a part of that team. I knew I had it in me; I believe that I can do anything if I focus on it.

That was almost a year ago, and since that time, I don't know if I've ever had a day with the same schedule. Sometimes, I'm in the office on the phone. Sometimes, I schedule a string of meetings across town, leave the office before lunch, and return in the late afternoon.

My job is to help people achieve their career goals, and to help great companies find great people. I get paid to talk to people all day long! What's best about WSA? It's hard to say. I'd like to emphasize the earning potential, but then I feel like I'm underselling the great people and great management I work with.

Wall Street Associates is a growing, forward-thinking organization where you can make your mark on the market. The only limit is your own ability to work hard, interact with people, manage your time and priorities, and provide great service. People reward great service with business, so in the end, that's all you have to do. It's not easy, but it certainly is rewarding professionally, personally, and financially.

It's Been Like Getting Paid to do an MBA!

Kevin Naylor
Business Consultant, Banking and Finance

I came to Wall Street in a rather unusual way. I was looking for a greater challenge as I had hit a glass ceiling in my previous firm. My best friend in Japan is a client of Wall Street and had used our services to recruit people for his team in the past. Needless to say, he was pleased by the professionalism and hands on customer service he had received so he recommended I get in touch. I was not really looking for a position in recruiting but I was so impressed by the teamwork ethic, training, professionalism and general quality of the people that I decided to join.

Joining without previous recruiting experience, the thought of being successful, especially in the fast-paced world of Finance was intimidating. However, support from colleagues along with strategic networking allowed me to go out and confidently build strong relationships with key decision makers in some of the most prestigious firms in the industry. I have been able to leverage these relationships to not only make many key placements in the industry and grow our name value in the market but also to increase my knowledge of business and the industry exponentially. It has been like getting paid to do an MBA!
