Leaders of Japan: Executive Women's Roundtable

Executive Women's Roundtable events are an opportunity to discuss with the senior management members. WSA Women's Association will host a quarterly Executive Women's Roundtable Dinner and invite female leaders of diverse professions and backgrounds to network with others. If you are interested in attending one of our dinners, please contact us at: wsawa@wallstreetjapan.com

Tokyo Round Table 1
October 18, 2007

WSA Women's Association hosted the first Executive Women's Roundtable Dinner on October 18th 2007. The theme of the evening's discussion was "Level 5 Leadership", taken from Jim Collin's "Good to Great" publication. Each guest was given a copy of the book prior to the dinner and asked to bring their thoughts on the this topic to the table. With such a diverse guest list of women (both Japanese and foreign) from all different industries and company sizes, the topic of Leadership was interpreted and approached from many different perspectives. We touched upon themes of confidence, influence, professional will, personal humility and humour in the workplace. All of our female guests hold an executive role within their companies and appreciated sharing thoughts on how to execute their role most effectively, as well as become a chage agent through leadership.

Tokyo Round Tables 2
February 22, 2008

The second Executive Women's Roundtable Dinner was successfully held at Ivy Hall in Omotesando on February 20th 2008. We enjoyed the diverse company of 12 executive female guests from various industries and company sizes. The event commenced with a presentation by Ms. Renge Jibu, a Nikkei Business Publication Columnist, and Fulbright Scholar at The Center for the Education of Women, University of Michigan. The presentation was followed by lively and thought-provoking discussion on topics such as gender issues in the workplace and changing attitudes in Japan.

Guest Speakers

Guest Speakers Session
June 1, 2007

In June 2007, we had a special guest speaker for the first time at the WSA Women's Association Luncheon Meeting, who is Vice President and Director of Human Resources at a foreign capital Financial Services company in Japan.

Our guest shared some of her valuable work stories and experiences with us, such as how she did not expect to become a Director of Human Resources when she started her career 20 years ago; how she was involved in several key projects which were turning points in her career; and how she is now actively working internally with men and women on equal career opportunity initiatives. Her ability to overcome obstacles in a much tougher era for women's career development and her wonderful activity as HR director has encouraged us very much. Hearing these stories taught us to accept and welcome changes and challenges, and to treat them as chances.

Self Defense Class
August 9, 2007

On August 9th, 2007, I took part in a fantastic self-defense class sponsored by Wall Street Associates and organized and coordinated by the WSA Women’s Association. The class featured Mr. Oketani - an expert in using 'ki' to add power to self-defense techniques. He taught us how to use our energy, breathing, and everyday items (magazines, etc) as self-defense weapons. The class was highly enjoyable, and I appreciate that Wall Street and the WSA Women’s Association allowed me to experience this class.

Run-for-the-Cure Sponsorship & Participation
October 20, 2007

"WSA Women's Association did a great job last year organizing WSA's participation in the Run for the Cure event. I think everyone enjoyed the day, it brought our competitive spirit, and supported a great cause. I look forward to defending the 10km WSA title next year!"
