WSA’s CSR activities

Wall Street Associates (WSA) aims to be the best in the world at staffing, development and retention solutions for the progressively-minded community in Japan. Since our establishment, we have gained a great deal of knowledge about the market and our customers. This knowledge enabled us to grow as a company, and continue growing into the future. Therefore, as a part of our CSR activities, we feel a sense of duty to identify the most useful information and share it with our customers.

Hope for Tohoku – HOPE for Japan Fund

As members and supporters of HOPE International Development Agency Japan, (HOPE-JP) we are all deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction of property in Northern Japan and are very concerned for the survivors and their ongoing welfare as they begin the process of rebuilding lives.

HOPE-JP’s mandate is to support the many needy families around the world, helping them to achieve self-reliance. We will be faithful to our mission to these very needy people caught in chronic and debilitating poverty.
However, in response to this great tragedy within our community and the many inquiries from HOPE-JP’s supporters, HOPE-JP has created the HOPE for Japan Fund, for those who desire to give through HOPE International Development Agency in Japan to the helpless and needy in Northern Japan.

In keeping with our philosophy of working with local grassroots organizations, we will establish partnerships and focus the funds on medium and long-term support, especially in areas where people are most in need.

HOPE-JP is now actively involved in advising organizations involved in a response and making contact with organizations and individuals at a grassroots level who are reaching out. Hope has already “discovered” unreachable, stranded victims and has made several deliveries by helicopter of urgently needed goods. Currently 5 helicopters are making several deliveries daily.  HOPE funds are paying for the aviation fuel and goods and money donated to the HOPE fund are going directly to these stranded areas.

Supporting “The Tyler Foundation”

Wall Street Associates (WSA) is a proud Corporate Sponsor and active supporter of the Tyler Foundation. The Tyler Foundation is a Japanese-based nonprofit organisation supporting children with cancer and their families in Japan. The idea for the foundation was inspired by the Ferris Family’s son, Tyler who battled two-years with infant leukemia. Even though Tyler received fantastic care at the National Center for Child Health and Development in Japan, the Ferris Family realized there was still much to be done to make life better for kids during treatment and make life easier for the people supporting them.

WSA’s & Tyler Partnership

In September 2007 WSA’s officially began its long term corporate partnership with the Tyler Foundation, marking it as an opportunity to build on our already strong ties with the Ferris Family.

The partnership recognises Mark Ferris’ initial support for WSA when we were first establishing business in Tokyo. We believe the Tyler Foundation is an extremely beneficial cause that has already made a significant impact on the families in the local community. We can see the tangible benefits of such a charity and how it continues to provide support through regular fundraising events to help kids with childhood cancer and their families.

We are passionate about showing our support for children living with cancer and their families, and are hoping to help make a real difference in the local community under a WSA-initiated theme of marathon running; the Shine On Marathon Challenge.

The Shine On Marathon Challenge

Taking it step by step!
Running for charity is the most rewarding way of running a marathon. Over the next three years we will be working with the Tyler Foundation, Second Wind and the local community to raise 100 million JPY in funds each year through marathon running. All proceeds will go towards building a dream Shine On House in Japan.

Shine On House will be a support centre accommodating local Japanese and expatriate families with pediatric patients afflicted with cancer. It’ll aim to provide short and long term (1-2 years) accommodation, counseling space, daily and weekend care; and activities for siblings of patients.

This is an ambitious but very vital cause that you and your friends and family can be a part of. All marathon runners who are already signed up for any Japan-based or international marathon are encouraged to register with the Tyler Foundation for the Shine On Marathon Challenge. For runners, it’ll give you the chance to show off their talent and be in the running to win some fantastic prizes!

For supporters, friends and family of registered runners are encouraged to cast their bets in the name of charity and make an online pledge for their favourite team or individual runner.

2008 Tokyo Marathon

The 2008 Tokyo Marathon saw Britain’s top marathon runner, Mara Yamauchi, as the main Champion for the Shine On Marathon Challenge. Combined efforts from everyone involved helped the Shine On Marathon Challenge team beat their ultimate target, raising 11,199,494 yen!!!!!!! We hope the superb success achieved during the 2008 Tokyo Marathon continues through to upcoming Tokyo Marathons and other Japan-based and international marathons like the London and Honolulu Marathons. For more information, please visit the Tyler Foundation website.

2011 Tokyo Marathon

Jennifer Shinkai,  Jason Bonitsky and Jeff Mangiapane will all be running the Tokyo Marathon this year on February 27th.

Leaders of Japan

Since February 2007, WSA has regularly held Executive Roundtable Discussions entitled ‘Leaders of Japan.” The participants are CEOs, Presidents, Country Managers, and management-level professionals from our client companies.

We have used the ideas and concepts from Jim Collin’s book “Good to Great.” WSA has been utilizing those ideas and concepts to develop our company for the last three years. The book is a provocative and insightful investigation into real examples of “good” companies striving to become “great.”

Career Support Program for MBA holders

In recent years, the number of MBA (Master of Business Administration) holders registering with WSA has significantly increased. In addition, the number of jobs for MBA holders from our client companies has also increasing.

MBA Degrees are prestigious and widely recognized as offering the highest level of education in the world of academia. Without question, MBA holders are often better remunerated and given more opportunity and greater leverage when applying for jobs or seeking a promotion.

With these market trends, WSA has been supporting MBA holders not only for creating win-win situation by introducing the MBA holders to our client companies but also holding the seminar for the MBA holders or people who want to hold MBA. One of the examples is the presentation at the Nagoya University of Commerce and Business (NUCB) Graduate School. The NUCB Graduate School was ranked by the AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) as having one of the best business program on among all Universities in Japan.

The AACSB International is the global authority as a university evaluation organization and is held in high standing. NUCB was come second to only one University, the Keio University Graduate School Management course. So far, Paul Dupuis (WSA West Japan Director), Maki Mizuhara (WSA Nagoya office Director) and other division director from WSA has presented the seminar about career and market value of the MBA holders.

With the number of job openings requiring an MBA qualification and MBA-like qualities also on the rise, we hope to continue supporting MBA holders as their preferred agent in order to maximize the rewards for our candidates and our clients.
